India and Sri Lanka clash in the fourth One-Day International (ODI) at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The hosts are currently leading the five-match ODI series 1-0 after a remarkable win in the first one-dayer that saw India post a mammoth target of 364, before bundling the Lankans out for a paltry 194. Sri Lanka were seen training hard for the second game with the hope of levelling the series. Amit Banerjee takes a look at the possible XI that the visitors are likely to field for the Thursday match.

Top-Order:

The Sri Lankan top-order got the side off to a decent start, guiding them to a score of 84 for the loss of two wickets, from where the pair of Upul Tharanga and Mahela Jayawardene could have formed a solid partnership. The Indian bowlers however, were better on the day, and Tharanga’s dismissal was the beginning of a steady downfall. The top-order as such cannot be blamed for the defeat, and as such the likes of Tharanga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara and Jayawardene are likely to stay.

Middle-Order:

It was the Lankan middle-order that collapsed like a pile of cards, crumbling from a score of 130 for four to 167 for seven. Seekkuge Prasanna and Ashan Priyanjan disappointed with the scores of five and 12 which might call for a replacement. The Lankan management might consider fielding Niroshan Dickwella, who had impressed with the bat during the series against Pakistan.

Lower-Order:

The Sri Lankan bowling attack was all over the place in the first ODI at Cuttack, with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane setting up a 231-run opening stand, before the hosts finished at a score of 363 for five. While Suraj Randiv managed to take three wickets despite leaking 78 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Lanka will now need to ponder over the performances of the likes of Thisara Perera, who gave away 51 runs without taking a wicket from seven overs. Nuwan Kulasekara would be likely to make an entry in the second game.

Sri Lanka Likely XI:

Upul Tharanga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Niroshan Dickwella, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Suraj Randiv, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dammika Prasad, Lahiru Gamage.
